Hey guys wanted to share a fun, short post with you all while I’m in Arizona getting ready to cheer on my husband on Sunday at Ironman Arizona (IMAZ) 2012. Yesterday we were at Ironman village, checking out the vendors and checking him in when the festivities began.
We were eating a really late lunch at 2pm Mountain time, which was my first meal of the day at what felt for me like 4pm Eastern time and were by the stage where they brought up athlete Michellie Jones from Australia to talk through and interview.
They were also giving away special edition Kona visors from Newton, one of Michellie’s sponsors. I learned through the trivia questions that Michellie has been in triathlon for 24 years! She has an Olympic sliver medal (from 2000), took 2nd at Ironman World Championships in Kona in 2005 and won in 2006, in addition to 3 other ITU world championships – e.g., she is a legit pro athlete!
For the final visor she wanted to make it fun and not just be answers to questions but challenged the crowd to a push up contest….for the people who weren’t racing. I jumped up, was selected and here’s how it went down. We were going head to head, max push ups in a minute for the visor
Part 1
Part 2
The announcer gave me 47 pushups, I counted 42…which still beat Michellie’s 39 – and as you can hear on the video they were definitely impressed at they pushups! Afterwards I got the visor signed and then was talking to Michellie about Crossfit and she said she had been thinking about trying it out, but after getting beaten in the push up contest she’s now even more motivated to give it a try. In addition to the visor I got a few high fives, and a Newton T-Shirt as well as a lot of people telling me they were impressed with my push ups For those of you that Crossfit, have you ever been able to use your fitness like this to surprise people?
She signed it: To Laura, Thanks for kicking my butt. Michellie Jones
